Grades K-4 Summer Explorers

Summer Explorers Courses (Arabic) Summer Explorers Courses (Punjabi)

Adventures in Early Literacy K/1/2 

This program is designed to joyfully reinforce and review foundational skills in reading and writing for students who have just completed their Kindergarten, Grade 1 or Grade 2 school year. Curricular ‘Big Ideas’ will be explored through an integration of subject areas such as Science, Socials, and Arts. Students will have opportunities to explore themes through meaningful, hands-on, literacy activities. They will also participate in daily outdoor inquiry and play-based learning activities with encouragement for supported social interactions.

Having fun, making new friends, and enjoying time outdoors while practicing literacy skills is the focus of our Adventures in Early Literacy program!

Explorations en Francais Grades 1/2 

This program provides students enrolled in the French Immersion program with opportunities to develop and expand their repertoire of skills in all areas of French Language Arts. Themed units are explored with integrated subjects and meaningful, fun, hands-on opportunities for students to engage with French literacy and oral language. In this course, students will participate in daily outdoor activities, inquiry, and play-based learning.

Grades 3 & 4 Literacy Explorers Series 

These programs are designed to joyfully reinforce reading, writing, and oral language skills covered during the school year for students who have just completed Grade 3 or 4. Curricular ‘Big Ideas’ will be explored through an integration of multiple curricular areas. The focus of the Literacy Explorers Series is to have fun, make new friends, and enjoy time outdoors while practicing literacy skills.

  1. Art Explorers Grades 3 & 4 
    Curricular ‘Big Ideas’ will be explored through an integration of Literacy and Arts Education. Students will have opportunities to explore performing art themes such as drama, visual arts, and dance through meaningful, hands-on, literacy activities. They will also participate in outdoor inquiry, play-based learning, and daily physical activities with encouragement for positive social interactions.

  2. STEM Explorers Grades 3 & 4 
    Curricular ‘Big Ideas’ will be explored through an integration of Literacy, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Students will have opportunities to explore scientific themes such as matter & energy through meaningful, hands-on, literacy activities. They will also participate in outdoor inquiry, play-based learning, and daily physical activities with encouragement for positive social interactions.

  3. Explorations en Français Grades 3 & 4 
    This program provides students enrolled in the French Immersion program with opportunities to develop and expand their repertoire of skills in all areas of French Language Arts. Themed units are explored with integrated subjects and meaningful, fun, hands-on opportunities for students to engage with French literacy and oral language. In this course, students will participate in daily outdoor activities, inquiry, and play-based learning.

Indigenous Story and Connections Grades 2/3/4 

Métis Focus – GODSON ELEMENTARY 
This program is designed to explore learning and language through Indigenous culture and The First People’s Principals of Learning.  This class is open to all students, with priority given to Indigenous learners.  The offering will wrap around authentic stories and include meaningful opportunities for students to engage in literacy, numeracy, and inquiry. Students will participate in Métis cultural activities in a fun outdoor and play-based environment. Have fun, engage in Indigenous culture and storytelling, make new friends, and enjoy time outdoors while building and practicing literacy skills!


Grades 5 - 8 Summer Explorers 

Student well-being and skill-building is the foundation for this 3-week, inquiry-based exploration program. Students will select either a Literacy or Numeracy course and an Exploration class.  Each course will provide students with a meaningful deep learning experience around big ideas from the provincial curriculum. This program is designed to creatively reinforce reading, writing, and oral language skills covered during the school year.  Daily physical activity and Indigenous Principles of Learning will be woven into each learning community.

Students will select ONE (A, B, C, or D)

  • A. Digital Detectives: Navigating Online Worlds Grades 5-8
    Students will become digital detectives, exploring the areas of digital literacy and critical thinking.  They will learn how to navigate the online world responsibly, respecting privacy, and practicing good digital citizenship. They’ll uncover the answers to questions like: Who created this content? Is it reliable?  Armed with critical thinking skills, students will explore a variety of texts online and in print. They’ll decode the author’s purpose, spot biases, and separate fact from fiction. Students will use a variety of digital tools to communicate their own messages effectively.
  • B. Literacy Enrichment Explorers Grades 5 to 8
    This program is designed to reinforce and review foundational skills in reading and writing for English Language Learners. Curricular ‘Big Ideas’ will be explored through an integration of subject areas such as Science, Socials, and Arts. Students will have opportunities to creatively communicate their learning and explore themes through hands-on literacy activities.
  • C. Explorations en Français Grades 5 to 8
    The French Immersion program will provide students with the opportunity to refine their French speaking and literacy skills. They will focus on conversations, activities & improvisation techniques to learn more vocabulary and proper intonation and pronunciation. Students must currently be enrolled in the French Immersion District Program.
  • D. Math Adventures: Boosting Confidence and Number Sense Grades 5 to 8
    Students will explore a variety of mathematical concepts through confidence-building activities, real-world challenges, and math games.  They will build their number sense skills by working together to solve meaningful math problems that are practical and engaging.  Students will share mathematical insights to deepen their understanding through class discussions and the use of math journals. By showcasing their discoveries, reflections, and favourite math moments, students will begin to see themselves as confident and capable mathematicians and they will carry their math skills beyond the classroom.

  • E. Physical Education Explorers Grades 5 to 8 
    Curricular ‘Big Ideas’ will be explored through an integration of Literacy, Physical and Health Education. Students will have opportunities to explore themes such as movement, health, and well-being through meaningful, hands-on and team building activities. We want students to remain active throughout the summer by participating in various team sports and individual activities. Students will also engage and participate in Indigenous activities and games, as well as study, learn and teach their fellow peers about a new sport from another country. All with the intention and purpose and exposing students to a variety of ways to maintain a healthy level of physical activity.
  • F. Art Explorers Grades 5 to 8
    Curricular ‘Big Ideas’ will be explored through an integration of Literacy and Arts Education.  Students will have the opportunity to explore themes in musical theatre and enhance their performance skills. Student learning will focus on literacy and expression in visual arts, drama, and music. Students will read and write scripts, learn how to build sets and props during art activities and perform in their own play or musical.
  • G. STEM and Robotics Explorers Grades 5 - 8 
    Curricular ‘Big Ideas’ will be explored through an integration of Science, Math, and Applied Design Skills and Technologies. The Robotics program will provide students with the chance to learn coding, robotics, and develop rational thinking and decision making. The STEM program will provide students with the opportunity to learn how to critically think to solve problems that involve energy, structures, and design. There will be weekly challenges that include hands-on engineering, building and creativity.
  • H. Health and Food Explorers Grades 5 to 8
    Curricular ‘Big Ideas’ will be explored through an integration of Literacy, Applied Design Skills and Technologies and Health Education.  Students will have with the opportunity to learn about nutrition, health, and well-being. They will explore the importance of agriculture and food sustainability through growing and harvesting food as well as food preparation. A hands-on learning opportunity for food enthusiasts.
