Grades K-4 Summer Explorers

K Early Explorers

This program is designed to meet the specific learning needs of students entering or just finishing Kindergarten and is designed to reinforce the foundational skills in reading, writing and numeracy introduced during the school year. Students will explore Big Ideas from the curriculum with fun, real-life, and hands on opportunities while engaged in literacy and numeracy learning. Students will also participate in daily outdoor inquiry activities and play-based learning with encouragement for supported social interactions.

Having fun, making new friends, and enjoying time outdoors while strengthening literacy and numeracy skills is the focus of our Kindergarten Early Explorers Program!

Literacy Explorers 1/2

This program is designed to joyfully reinforce and review reading, writing, and oral language skills for students who have just completed their Grade 1 or Grade 2 school year. Curricular ‘Big Ideas’ will be explored through an integration of subject areas such as Science, Socials, and Arts. Students will have opportunities to explore themes through meaningful, hands-on, literacy activities. Students will also participate in daily outdoor inquiry and play-based learning activities with encouragement for supported social interactions.

Having fun, making new friends, and enjoying time outdoors while practicing literacy skills is the focus of our Literacy Explores Grade 1/2 Program!

Literacy Explorers 3/4

Numeracy Explorers 1/2

This program will provide all students who have just completed their Grade 1 or 2 school year, with opportunities to review and reinforce some of the basic numeracy skills covered in a fun and meaningful way. Numeracy skills will be explored through an integration of subject areas such as Science, Social Studies, and the Arts and include hands-on experiences and problem-solving inquiries. Students will also participate in daily outdoor and play-based learning while increasing their understanding of Numeracy concepts.

Numeracy Explorers 3/4

Explorations en Francais Grades 1/2 & 3/4:

This program provides students enrolled in the French Immersion program opportunities to develop and expand their repertoire of skills in all areas of French Language Arts. Themed units are explored with integrated subjects and meaningful, fun, hands-on opportunities for students to engage with French literacy. In this course, students will participate in daily outdoor activities, inquiry, play based learning.

Leq'à:leqel, Exploring Land and Literacy Gr. 1-3 

This program is designed to explore learning and language through Indigenous culture.  This class is open to all students with priority given to Indigenous learners.  The offering will include meaningful hands-on opportunities for students to engage with literacy and participate in Indigenous cultural activities in a fun outdoor and play based environment.

Have fun, engage in Indigenous culture, make new friends, and enjoy time outdoors while building and practicing literacy skills!

Grades 5 - 8 Summer Explorers

Student well-being and skill-building is the foundation for this 3-week, inquiry-based exploration program. Each program will consist of focused literacy, or numeracy, instruction and provide students with a meaningful deep learning experience around a big idea from the provincial curriculum. Daily physical activity and Indigenous Principles of Learning will be woven into each learning community.

Leq’à :leqel, An Outdoor Experience Grades 5 - 8

This program is designed to explore learning from the land through Indigenous culture. This outdoor education program will provide students with the opportunity to learn about their surroundings, traditional gathering practices, and sustaining our environment.  Students will have a hands-on learning opportunity to discover local trails, flora, and fauna. Let us count you in for some outdoor adventures!

Music Performing Arts Grades 6 - 8

The Music Performing Arts Program will provide students with the chance to further refine their musical and band skills. Students are required to have band experience and will learn to play new musical pieces. They will end their program with a musical performance. Watch out Mozart, you may have some competition!

Drama Performing Arts Grades 5 – 8

The Drama Performing Arts Program will provide students the opportunity to enhance their acting and performance skills. Student learning will focus on expression, improvisation and presentation as they explore drama forms and conventions. They will end their program with a theatrical performance that will match all your Broadway hopes and dreams.

Visual Arts Grades 5 - 8

The Visual Arts Program will provide students with the opportunity to refine their artistic talents. Students will learn about local artists, the artistic process and let their creativity flow through designing artistic pieces of their own. They will work on collaboration skills as they work together on a final mural masterpiece. What creative creations can you construct?

Robotics Grades 5 - 8

The Robotics program will provide students with the chance to learn coding, robotics and develop rational thinking and decision making. This program will help build on students’ team-building skills as they work together to complete fun challenges. Students will also learn about programming literacy through online platforms like Scratch. We are looking to recruit our future Elon Musk’s!

Food Studies Grades 5 - 8

The Food Studies program will provide students with the opportunity to learn about food preparation while completing recipes. They will explore multicultural and ethnic foods and learn how they are prepared. Reading, writing, measuring and conversion will all be covered throughout these 3 weeks. Do we have any Master Chefs in Abbotsford?

STEM Grades 5 - 8

The STEM program will provide students with the opportunity to learn how to critically think to solve problems that involve building structures, using tools and design. There will be weekly challenges that include science, technology, engineering, creativity and math. If you like to think, draw & build, this program may be for you.

French Immersion Expressions Grades 5 - 8

The French Immersion program will provide students with the opportunity to refine their French speaking and literacy skills. They will focus on conversations, activities & improvisation techniques to learn more vocabulary and proper intonation and pronunciation. Students must currently be enrolled in the French Immersion District Program. “Voulez-vous parler avec moi?”
