Policies & Student Expectations

Behaviour

All students are expected to act in accordance with the rules and regulations common to district procedure and policy. Discipline issues will be dealt with according to Abbotsford School District policies.

Dress Code

Students are expected to dress in a fashion that would be acceptable at a professional workplace. The dress code will be strictly enforced. Students may be sent home to change or be given something else to wear on top of their existing clothing. 

The following items may not be worn:

  • hats, hoodies
  • chains, spikes
  • attire that promotes the use of alcohol, tobacco, drugs, inappropriate language, racism, sexism, violence, promiscuity, or identitfies the student with groups or gangs whose purpose is to intimidate of harass.
  • attire that is offensive or distracting because it is too extreme in style or too revealing: bare midriffs, bare backs, low necklines, excessively 'low-rise' pants and shorts, spaghetti or beadie straps, tanks or tube tops, extremely short shorts, haltar tops etc. 

Break Time

Students are expected to remain on the school campus at all times.

Discipline

Teachers will endeavour to provide a stimulating learning environment. Students who disrupt the learning process may be dealt with firmly under the following guidelines:

  • First offence: Warning of suspension
  • Second offence: One day suspension/Expulsion
  • Third offence: Expulsion

Incidences involving illegal substances or confrontational behaviour will warrant an automatic expulsion from the summer school program and no refund. 

Attendance

Students are expected to attend each day. If absent once, your spot may be offered to a student on the waiting list. Students who miss three classes may be withdrawn without receiving credit for the course. Parents must contact the summer school office if a student will be missing a class for medical reasons. Any student who is returning after an absence must provide a valid note to the Vice-Principal or Principal prior to returning to class. 

Lates

Students are expected to be on time to all classes, including following regularly scheduled breaks. Students late to class twice will be credited with one absence in accordance with the attendance policy. 

Classwork and Homework

Students are expected to complete all assigned work on time and will be held accountable for all assignments. It is reasonable to expect that every hour in class requires an additional hour of study out of class. 

Grading

Report Cards will be issued on July 31 (times to be decided), available for PICK UP Only At That Time. Interim reports will be issues after 2 weeks in the summer school program Students will receive a final report card grade with percent and letter grade. Report cards will NOT be mailed home, but a copy will be sent to the student's home school as indicated on the students registration information.

Refunds

If a course does not run, International students who have paid for the course will receive a full refund, which will be mailed within 3-4 weeks. 

 

Academic Summer School 2019
POLICIES AND EXPECTATIONS

  1. Absence Policy: If absent once, your spot may be offered to a student on the waiting list. Two absences require administration, teacher and parent interview to continue. Three absences will result in withdrawal from Summer School (NOTE: 2 lates during any part of the day = 1 absence).
  2. Times: Scheduled course times are not optional. Courses are scheduled to serve the greatest number of students possible; courses and times will be posted on the front windows of the Academic Summer Secondary School during the week (1 - 3 days) prior to school start and on Summer School website.
  3. Course Conflicts: Courses are scheduled to serve the greatest number of students possible. In the event of a course conflict be sure that you have indicated your preferences on the registration form.
  4. Course Cancellation: There is no guarantee that all courses will run. Courses will only run if enough students enroll. Check the Summer School Website 1 - 3 days prior to school start to make sure your requested course is running. If a course is cancelled, a full refund will be issued.
  5. Enrollment: A completed registration form does not automatically guarantee enrollment in the Academic Summer School program. Registration will be determined by teacher availability, the number of students enrolled in the program, the school counsellor's recommendation, and receipt of the seat registration deposit.
  6. Seat Registration Deposit & Payment Information: 
    • Payment via cheque or credit card can be made at Abbotsford Senior Secondary, 33344 Bevan Ave, Abbotsford, BC from 4pm to 7:00pm on the following nights: 

      • Wednesday May 23 and Wednesday May 30

      • Tuesday June 5

      • Thursday June 9th.
    • At these times student information will be confirmed and your deposit / tuition payment made. ONLY those students who finish the payment process are registered. 
      Remember you will need to have: (Any Missing documents will require you to register on a later night.)

      - Completed the online student information survey
      - A valid ID,
      - Completeted Counsellor Referral form,
      - A most recent Report Card,
      - Payment

  7. Grading:  
    1. Academic Completion: Students will receive a final report card with the percent and letter grade. Interim reports will be issued two weeks into the course. Information regarding Provincial exams will be provided in class.        
    2. Provincial Exams: August Provincial Exams will be written electronically and include the following courses mandatory to meet Ministry of Education graduation requirements: English 12 and Communications 12.
